DEFENSE

Definition: Backrow defense is our 2nd line of defense. We need to dig balls to keep the rally alive. We need to get down and get dirty with the floor. It is easiest to star deep in the court and move forward as you read the play. Remember "DIGS ARE KILLS!" Be intense and digs some balls!

1. READY POSITION

  • Start with a Low & Controlled position.
  • It's an exaggerated passing position!
  • Knees in front of toes, shoulders in front of knees and arms out in front of you.

2. ANKLE ANGLES

  • Pinch your ankles forward in order to get into a low position.
  • This will assure the best possible digging position

3. 20 & 3 RULE

  • Get under the ball and try to dig it 20 Feet in the air & 3 Feet off the net.
  • As long as you dig the ball high enough someone else can make a play.
  • Hopefully we can get a set and convert your dig into a set and kill!

4. FF RULE

  • Become Friends with the Floor!
  • Start low and and drive with the floor, not against it because it's not moving.
  • Get under the ball and gently break your fall.

5. BE STILL AT CONTACT

  • Read the ball & make your move but at contact your arms should be still.
  • Judge the pace of the ball and make the necessary adjustments.
  • Avoid Pressing the Panic Button!
